Madina fans celebrate as Michael Baidoo scores in Elfsborg’s Europa League win over AS Roma

Local Ghanaian fans in Madina gathered in large numbers to watch Michael Baidoo’s pivotal role in IF Elfsborg’s 1-0 victory over AS Roma in the Europa League.
A giant screen was set up in his boyhood town, where supporters celebrated as Baidoo netted a decisive penalty in the 44th minute, securing a crucial win for the Swedish side.
Baidoo’s journey from the streets of Madina to European football is a source of immense pride for the local community.
He began his career at Ghanaian club Vision FC, which facilitated his move to Danish side Midtjylland in 2018.
After three years there, Baidoo moved on to Jerv and Sandnes Ulf before signing for Elfsborg in January 2022.
Since joining Elfsborg, Baidoo has been a key player, scoring 27 goals and providing 16 assists in 90 appearances.
His latest goal, a calm penalty against AS Roma, marked his first in this season’s Europa League and was celebrated widely by fans back home.
In addition to Baidoo, fellow Ghanaian defender Terry Yegbe also played a vital role in the win, helping Elfsborg withstand Roma’s heavy pressure despite their 75% possession.
Fans in Madina will continue to cheer for Baidoo as Elfsborg now turn their focus to their next match against Lee Man in the Hong Kong Premier League on October 6th.
