I am not disturbed – Asamoah Gyan reacts after joining Bawumia’s campaign team
Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has addressed the criticism surrounding his recent appointment to the campaign team of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, a contender in the upcoming 2024 elections in Ghana.
The former Sunderland and Liberty Professionals striker, who was named on the Manifesto Committee of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the elections, will be heading the “Youth and Sports” manifesto sub-committee, focusing on the sports aspect of Dr Bawumia’s manifesto.
Gyan’s decision to join Bawumia’s team has stirred mixed reactions from the Ghanaian public, but the football star remains unfazed by the criticism.
Responding to the controversy, Gyan expressed confidence in himself and his ability to contribute positively to the campaign.
He remarked, “They have their own opinions. I have been there [before]. I have been to stadiums, been booed in front of 80,000 people, I am used to it.”
Gyan further emphasized his willingness to share his 20 years of experience with the new generation, stating, “I can’t just sit at home and keep it. I have to share with the new generation to benefit from it.”
Despite the scrutiny, Gyan sees the criticism as a motivation for him and his team to work even harder.
He concluded, “At the end of the day when everything is said and done, we see what we did or what we couldn’t do. The criticisms will come. It is also good for me personally and for my team to push harder…”
The committee led by Gyan has been tasked with a comprehensive review of the New Patriotic Party’s previous manifestos from the 2016 and 2020 elections.
