NACOC arrests prime suspect in 8kg cocaine shipment attempt

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested the main suspect behind the attempted trafficking of seven slabs of cocaine, weighing a total of 8 kilograms, through Swissport at the Kotoka International Airport.

The illegal drug consignment was intercepted during separate attempts on August 13 and 14, 2025, en route to the United Kingdom. Preliminary investigations revealed sophisticated concealment methods intended to bypass security checks at the airport.

According to NACOC, the suspect, Emmanuel Jared Ohene Obuobi, was apprehended following detailed surveillance and intelligence-led operations.

Authorities believe the individual plays a central role in an international drug trafficking network operating between West Africa and Europe.

The suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations, while NACOC has assured the public of its commitment to clamping down on narcotics smuggling and strengthening airport security protocols.
