UDS Commissions Major Infrastructure Projects to Boost Academic Excellence

The University for Development Studies has commissioned major infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing teaching, research, and service delivery.

The newly commissioned facilities include a twin oval auditorium, a Health Sciences Laboratory Complex, a School of Nursing and Midwifery Complex, a dental clinic, and an ICT complex.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Seidu Alhassan, described the occasion as a proud and historic milestone for the university. He noted that the projects were funded through the institution’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF), reflecting prudent financial management, strategic planning, and a strong commitment to self-reliance.

According to him, the new facilities will significantly strengthen academic work and improve practical training, particularly in the health sciences.

He emphasized that the investments are geared towards advancing quality education, research, and community service.

Professor Alhassan expressed appreciation to past and present leaders of the university for their contributions, noting that the achievements are the result of collective effort and sustained commitment to institutional growth.

Also addressing the gathering, the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai, described the commissioning as a significant milestone not only for the university but also for the local community, Northern Ghana, and the country at large.

He highlighted the transformation of the area from largely undeveloped land into a vibrant academic hub, describing it as a symbol of investment in education, human capital, and national development.

The Sagnar Naa further noted that the state-of-the-art facilities reinforce the university’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in Ghana and across Africa. He stressed the importance of continuity in development, commending efforts to complete projects initiated years ago.

He urged students to make good use of the facilities, emphasizing discipline, peace, and academic focus. He also called on management and staff to ensure proper maintenance of the infrastructure to guarantee long-term sustainability.

The newly commissioned projects are expected to improve the learning environment and expand opportunities for students, while positioning the university for greater impact in higher education and research.
