One dead, 19 injured as rainstorm destroys 150 homes in Binduri

One person has been confirmed dead, 19 others injured, and about 150 houses destroyed after a violent rainstorm tore through the Binduri District in the Upper East Region.

The storm, which struck on Friday, April 24, 2026, hit three communities—Bazua, Kuloku, and Kuloku Tengir—causing widespread devastation. The deceased has been identified as Anambo, while the injured are receiving treatment for varying degrees of harm.

Beyond the loss of life, the destruction is extensive. About 150 homes, two churches, and two schools have been levelled, leaving scores of residents displaced and exposed.

The Upper East Regional office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is on the ground assessing the full scale of the damage.

Regional Director Hashimatu Rebecca Akolgo led a team to the affected communities, describing the situation as severe.

“Upon our assessment, we have realised that the level of destruction is very significant. We are here to sympathise with the affected individuals, their families, and the entire community, including the opinion leaders, chiefs, and all residents,” she said.

She urged residents to take immediate precautions and reinforce their buildings ahead of the peak of the rainy season.
