Samara Company Limited, producers of Sasso insecticide sprays and mosquito coils, in partnership with Kel Charcoal Toothpaste, has organised a clean-up exercise in Tamale to mark World Malaria Day.
The Sales Manager of Samara Company Limited, Mr. Dennis Osei, said the initiative forms part of the company’s commitment not only to business but also to community responsibility.
He explained that the exercise is aimed at preventing malaria by reducing mosquito breeding grounds often found in dirty and choked environments.
Mr. Osei noted that the activity is part of the company’s effort to give back as a Ghanaian-owned business.
He added that the exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and local groups, with similar activities also taking place in Nima, Accra.
Beyond the clean-up, he said the company is also educating residents on proper waste disposal and has provided dustbins to promote sustained environmental hygiene.
He indicated that Tamale was selected due to the company’s presence in the area and the need to improve sanitation, adding that similar interventions may be extended to other locations in the future.
A representative of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, speaking on behalf of the Mayor, commended the company for its commitment to safeguarding lives and improving the environment.
He stressed that poor sanitation significantly contributes to the spread of malaria and emphasised that maintaining clean surroundings is key to eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
The Assembly also acknowledged the sponsorship by Samara Company Limited, highlighting the importance of private sector support in the fight against malaria.
Residents were encouraged to make cleanliness a daily habit, alongside the use of effective mosquito control measures, to ensure better health outcomes.
Various keep-fit clubs in Tamale participated in the clean-up exercise, contributing to the success of the event.
