Ibrahim Sannie Daara backs Otto Addo to drop underperforming players

Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has called on Black Stars coach Otto Addo to take a firm stance and make bold decisions following the national team’s recent struggles.

Daara, who is also a Senior CAF Media Officer, expressed his views after the senior team faced heavy criticism for their disappointing performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Despite mounting pressure on Otto Addo and his coaching staff, Sannie Daara believes the issues facing the team are not solely related to the coaching.

He emphasized the need for Otto Addo to be decisive in dropping underperforming players, which he believes would ultimately help the team succeed.

“I don’t believe the coaching is Black Stars’ problem. This same coach (Otto Addo) led us to beat Nigeria. We went to the World Cup and beat South Korea even though we suffered an early elimination, he told Asempa FM.

“I still believe that the team did creditably well but it doesn’t mean that we should be mute if the coach is not getting things right.

“I know there are issues about our goalkeeping department but what are the options?  I believe that Otto Addo must be bold in his decision-making and drop players who don’t perform.

“He must make sure that he preaches to the players that there are options. The players must come together as a unit and do the needful,” he added.

Ghana will continue their AFCON qualifiers later this month, with a tough challenge ahead to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco. They will face Angola in Luanda on November 15, followed by a home match against Niger Republic on November 18.

Currently, the Black Stars sit third in Group F, with just two points from four matches, trailing Angola and Sudan.
