Mohammed Kudus must grow and learn to be a captain – Otto Addo

Black Stars coach, Otto Addo has explained his decision to name Jordan Ayew as the captain for the final round of games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Following Thomas Partey’s absence from the doubleheader against Sudan last month, Mohammed Kudus was named the team captain.

The decision by Otto Addo and the technical team was heavily criticized after Alexander Djiku and Jordan Ayew were all overlooked.

However, addressing the media after announcing his squad for the final round of games against Angola and Niger on Thursday, Otto Addo confirmed that Jordan Ayew will captain the team for the games.

Explaining his decision, the 45-year-old said the Leicester City forward will lead the team since Mohammed Kudus has a lot to learn to be a captain.

“Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars in Thomas Partey’s absence as I believe Mohammed Kudu still has a lot to learn to be a captain.”

The Black Stars will open camp on Sunday in Accra and will hold a series of training sessions at the Accra Sports Stadium before departing for Luanda on Wednesday.

The Black Stars will be hosted at the Estádio 11 de Novembro on November 15, followed by a home match against Niger Republic three days later at the Accra Sports Stadium.
