Ghana U20 coach Maxwell Konadu proud of Black Satellites despite Burkina Faso draw

Ghana recovered from a goal down to claim a point despite playing much of the contest with 10 men following an early red card that forced the coaching staff to rethink their plans.

Konadu admitted the dismissal disrupted his side’s approach but was encouraged by the response from his players.

“It was a very difficult match. We had a red card in the early minutes of the game, which distracted us a bit because then we had to make changes and shift players to unusual positions,” he said.

The Black Satellites coach revealed he switched from a 4-3-3 formation to a 3-5-1 system, a tactical adjustment he believes allowed Ghana to dominate large spells of the game.

“We changed the system, and that created a lot of scoring opportunities for us. Our strikers did everything possible and the midfielders worked extremely hard, but the second goal just couldn’t come.”

Konadu felt Ghana deserved all three points after equalising through Joseph Badu.

“We equalised when we were on top of the game, and that was when we should have killed the game. But we were unlucky. The boys played so well. We were just unlucky.”

The former Asante Kotoko coach also commended his players for their fighting spirit despite being reduced to 10 men.

“They did so well, even with the man down. I’m proud of the boys. We couldn’t win, but we will keep fighting.”

Attention now turns to Ghana’s final Group B match against Togo, with Konadu insisting his side will be targeting victory.

“We have accepted the result. We will try to beat Togo and see what happens. We want to win at least one game before we leave here.”
