GFA reappoints Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars head coach ahead of AFCON 2027 qualifiers
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the re-appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars.
The GFA announced the agreement on Wednesday, September 2, saying Queiroz will take charge of the team for the next phase of its international programme.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team’s programme,” the GFA said in its statement.
Queiroz’s previous mandate, which included leading Ghana at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, came to an end several weeks ago.

However, following discussions between the GFA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the coach, the parties agreed that Queiroz would continue in the role under a new mandate.
The new spell will begin with the upcoming international window, where the Black Stars will begin their campaign in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The GFA said Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and familiarity with the Black Stars make him well placed to lead Ghana into the next phase.
The Portuguese coach will now turn his attention to preparing the team for its upcoming international commitments as Ghana seeks to build a successful new chapter after the Round of 32 elimination at the 2026 World Cup.
