Nations FC head to Mali for FC Diarra CAF Confederation Cup preliminary clash
Ghanaian FA Cup winners Nations FC have travelled to Mali ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup first-round qualifying tie against FC Diarra.
The Abrankese-based club will face the Malian side in the first leg on Saturday, 5 September, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
The return leg will take place in Ghana on Sunday, 13 September, at 15:00 GMT, with Nations FC hoping to do enough in Mali to put themselves in a strong position to progress.
Nations FC secured their place in Africa’s second-tier club competition after winning the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup.
They defeated Dreams FC in the final to lift the trophy and earn a place in the Confederation Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
As part of their preparations for their continental campaign, Nations FC faced Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC in the Champion of Champions at the TNA Park.
Although they suffered defeat in that encounter, Nations FC will be looking to put that result behind them as they turn their attention to their first competitive continental assignment.
The Ghanaian side will be aiming to return from Mali with a positive result before the decisive second leg.
Victory over FC Diarra would see Nations FC advance to the second preliminary round, where they would face either Niger’s AS Zam or Burkina Faso’s ASKO de Kara.
For Nations FC, the tie represents a significant moment as they make their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup and look to establish themselves on the continental stage.
