Dormaa-Ahenkro-based Aduana Stars yesterday left it late to inflict further pain on Accra Great Olympics with a 0-1 defeat in injury time to walk away with maxiumum points in the second week matches in the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Stadium.
A side-footed shot in the 92nd minute by forward Nathan Kwasi Richard gave the visitors a vital three points and two wins out of two matches in the ongoing premiership.
Olympics largely dominated the game which lacked finesse and cutting edge from both teams who struggled to string passes together and connect effectively.
However, it was the hosts who had an early opportunity to find the back of the net in the fourth minute when attacker Abdul Razak Yusif latched onto the ball in the area but his last kick in front of goal was parried away by the Aduana shot-stopper, Joseph Addo.
Olympics kept probing for the opener and came close again in the 25th minute when attacker Gladson Awako dribbled his way into the Aduana area but saw his effort went awry when he released Razak Yusif who failed to capitalise on his effort.
The visitors got a chance of their own in the 28th minute when striker Yahaya Mohammed put Samuel Bioh through but the midfielder failed to get the target.
Olympics continued their onslaught as they laid siege in the Aduana area but Awako, Razak Yusif and Mohammed Aminu’s poor exchanges in the box lacked finesse and cutting edge to produce a goal.
As the game wore on, both teams were retired to a drawn game as a midfield ding-dong battle drew many of referee Eric Owusu’s yellow card out of his pocket to players from both sides for reckless tackles and challenges.
In the 92nd minute, Mohammed latched onto an aerial ball from his half, found space and released Isaac Kwain who squared it to Richard in the area and found the back of the net from his side foot.
