World Cup 2026: Ghana’s new Kwaku Ananse-inspired jersey unlikely to feature during group stage
Ghana's newly unveiled home jersey is unlikely to be seen during the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after FIFA confirmed match colour allocations for the opening round of the tournament.

The Black Stars’ new home kit, launched by Puma in New York last month, features a white base with a striking cobweb pattern inspired by Kwaku Ananse, the legendary spider figure in West African folklore. The design has been widely praised for celebrating Ghanaian culture and identity.
However, FIFA’s match colour designations for the group stage mean Ghana will not wear the jersey in any of their three Group L matches unless changes are made during pre-match coordination meetings.
The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before facing England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
Under FIFA regulations, participating teams submit both home and away kits before the tournament. FIFA then determines which colours will be worn for each match, with the primary objective of avoiding clashes and ensuring clear visual contrast for players, match officials, broadcasters and viewers.
As a result, Ghana are expected to wear alternative colours throughout the group stage despite the recent excitement surrounding the new home shirt.
There remains a possibility that the jersey could make its World Cup debut later in the competition if Ghana progress to the knockout rounds, where kit allocations will be determined based on the teams involved.
The tournament, which kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams.
For now, Ghanaian supporters may have to wait a little longer before seeing the Kwaku Ananse-inspired design on football’s biggest stage.
