World Cup 2026: Black Stars thank Rhode Island authorities ahead of Colombia showdown

The management of the Black Stars has expressed its appreciation to the Rhode Island Sheriff's Department and the Providence Security Team for their support and professionalism during Ghana's stay in Providence at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the team thanked both security agencies for their dedicated service throughout the Black Stars’ training camp in the American city.

Ghana arrived in Rhode Island on June 11 after completing pre-tournament camps in Cardiff and Virginia. During their stay, the Black Stars were based at the Providence by Hilton hotel and held their training sessions at Bryant University.

The team also received strong backing from the Ghanaian community across New England, who turned out in large numbers to support the players throughout the group stage.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz praised the reception the team received during their stay.

“The hospitality in Providence made it a home away from home,” the Portuguese coach said.

The Black Stars will leave Rhode Island on Wednesday for Kansas City, where they will complete preparations for Friday’s Round of 32 clash against Colombia at Kansas City Stadium.

Ghana reached the knockout stage after collecting four points in Group L, beating Panama, drawing with England and narrowly losing to Croatia before advancing as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.

With a place in the Round of 16 at stake, Carlos Queiroz’s men will be looking to build on their encouraging performances as they take on an unbeaten Colombian side that topped Group K with seven points.

Before departing, the Black Stars management thanked the people of Rhode Island for their hospitality, describing the state as a welcoming home throughout their World Cup campaign.
