We’re implementing a phased recruitment plan for nurses and other health professionals – Akandoh

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has assured Parliament that the Ministry is implementing a phased recruitment plan for nurses and other health professionals to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

Responding to questions on the floor of the House, the Minister said recruitment is currently focused on the 2021 batch of nurses and midwives, with successful applicants already reporting to their duty stations.

He added that the 2022 batch will be recruited before the end of the year 2026, followed by the 2023 batch, subject to financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.

The Minister also disclosed that 16,000 health professionals are being recruited this year, particularly for underserved areas.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the progressive recruitment of qualified health professionals to improve access to quality healthcare nationwide, in line with available financial resources and staffing needs.
