We’re counting on management’s cooperation to meet NLC’s deadline – Telecom workers

The Telecom and IT professionals Union says the management of Huawei has begun addressing challenges that resulted in last week’s strike by providing members with data that was used to compile a job evaluation report.

The union declared a strike which was intended on March 15, 2021, in protest of poor conditions of service.

The union said salary negotiations with the management of the four subcontractors who have been engaged by Huawei Technologies Limited to maintain the technical operations of MTN, AirtelTigo, and Vodafone had not yielded fruitful results.

They, therefore, resolved to boycott work until their concerns are addressed.

The union however suspended its strike action ahead of a meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC) on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

The two parties were thus directed to complete the job evaluation report review process within a month.

In an interview with Citi News, the General Secretary of the Union, Israel Edem Agbebor said cooperation by management is essential in meeting the deadline.

“Our first meeting was successful. Management has provided all the documents we requested. We have scheduled two more meetings within the week. We are law-abiding citizens, we only hope that management will fulfill their part of the bargain in order for us to meet the deadline.”
