VAR implementation will help sanitize Ghana football – Ibrahim Sannie Daara

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara beleives the implementation of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will help restore integrity and make football in the country attractive.

The country’s football governing body has held talks with officials from FIFA over the possible implementation of the VAR last week.

Speaking in an interview, Sannie Daara backed the decision for the implementation of the VAR, saying it will help make football attractive and restore integrity.

“The implementation of the VAR will help us a lot,” Sannie Daara told Asempa FM. “During the AFCON in Ivory Coast, one of the highlights was the VAR.

“We have heard a lot of allegations that referees influence the game so if the VAR is implemented, there would be integrity in our game and also help the league to be attractive.

“The VAR will also help these clubs. There would be confidence in our system so the VAR is something that we must embrace to help develop our game.

“I know there are a lot of things we need in our game but VAR is also something that we need which is a step forward and a good thing for us,” he added.

The FIFA delegation includes VAR specialists Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, who bring expertise to its operational processes.

The GFA attendees included Alex Kotey, head of referees and Ghana’s VAR team lead; Emmanuel Aglago, a VAR instructor; and Marian Mensah, the head of legal affairs at the GFA.
