Restoring Black Stars’ winning form will take time – GFA admits
Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says restoring the Black Stars to winning ways will require considerable time and sustained effort.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Asante Twum acknowledged the challenges facing the senior national team, insisting that the association’s leadership was aware of the situation and working to put the team back on track.
He cautioned against expecting an immediate turnaround, stressing that rebuilding the Black Stars would require patience and commitment.
“It wouldn’t take a day, wouldn’t take a week; it’ll take a lot more effort and a lot of time to get the team back on track,” he said.
“Where we are at this moment, leadership is aware of the challenges that confront us, and efforts are being made to get the team back on track,” he added.
Asante Twum also acknowledged the criticism that follows poor performances, noting that public reactions to football teams are often influenced by results.
“When you win, you’re hailed, but you don’t expect the people to hail you when the results are poor. That’s what leadership must know and accept,” he said.
His comments come amid growing pressure on the GFA to address the Black Stars’ struggles and restore confidence in the national team following a disappointing start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
Ghana suffered defeats against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening Group C matches, leaving the four-time African champions without a point and bottom of the standings.
The Black Stars will seek to revive their qualification hopes when they face Somalia in a double-header in November.
With an interim technical team now in charge, Ghana will be under pressure to secure maximum points from the two matches to improve their position in the group and keep their hopes of reaching the tournament alive.
