Pay Attention to Labour Issues to forster Peace- TUC N/R Sec to Gov’t
The Acting Northern Regional Secretary of Trades Union Congress (TUC) – Ghana has urge government to pay attention to issues in the interest of peace at the Labour front. According to her Labour wants government to focus its attention on the economy’s recovery.
Madam Felicia Kraja on 2021 may day celebration further stated that, Labour commission can fast track Ghana’s economy recovery in terms of growth and employment creation.
Due to the new normal, this year’s May Day Celebration brought together leaders of about 500 organized labour to commemorate the day under the theme: “Economic recovery in an Era of COVID-19 ; the role of social partner’s”.
Madam Felicia Kraja further indicated that, Labour commission is now fully aware of the devastating impact of the Pandemic on the economy, employment, income, and livelihood after the 2021 budget statement was presented to parliament.
This she believes strongly that organized labour can bring the Ghana’s economy back to pre-pandemic growth path if they deepen social partnership and work together. She noted further that, in terms of direct impact of COVID-19 on income, 46.1 percent of business establishment reported that, they reduce wages for 25.7 percent of the their workforce representing about 770,124 workers being relinquished, with only a3.5% of them receiving support from government during this difficult times.

The occasion was graced by the Northern Regional minister Hon. Shaibu Alhassan Shani who challenged workers to continue to give off their best as the country steadily progresses to achieve its Ghana beyond aid agenda.

He further thanked organized labour for the relative industries peace prevailing currently in the country.
He meanwhile urged the workforce to continue to maintain the peace by continuing to resort to social dialog and its engagement with government and stakeholders in terms of any setback.
