Our football will be doomed if Black Stars fail to qualify for 2025 AFCON – Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu
Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has expressed serious concerns for Ghanaian football, stating that the sport will face significant challenges if the national team fails to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana, a four-time African champion, currently sits without a victory after three qualifying matches. The team experienced a surprising 1-0 loss to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium, followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw against Niger.
In their most recent outing, they were unable to find the net against Sudan, ending the first leg of their doubleheader at Accra Sports Stadium in a goalless stalemate, which places them third in their group with just two points.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Agyemang-Badu, who played in the 2015 AFCON final, emphasized the gravity of the situation.
“If we fail to qualify, it will be a setback for Ghana football. In recent years, Ghanaians have typically discussed how to win the AFCON rather than how to qualify, but now we are struggling just to advance beyond the group stages. It’s a worrying trend,” he stated.
He added, “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that because if it does, it signifies a bleak future for our football.”
Looking ahead, Ghana is set to face Sudan in the return leg later today at the Martyrs of February Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 13:00 GMT.
