NPP Mion constituency Chairman resigns

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mion Constituency of the Northern Region, Sulaiman Abubakar, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
In a letter dated August 8, 2026, and addressed to the NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Abubakar formally announced his resignation as Mion Constituency Chairman.
The letter stated that his decision was personal and expressed gratitude to the party’s Council of Elders, patrons, polling station and electoral area executives, as well as members and supporters of the constituency, for the confidence reposed in him during his tenure.
“I am incredibly grateful to the Council of Elders, Patrons, Polling station and electoral area executives and the entire membership and supporters of our party in the constituency for the confidence reposed in me to serve our great party for this short period,” he wrote.
Despite stepping down from the constituency chairmanship, Abubakar stressed that he remains an active and committed member of the NPP.
He pledged to continue contributing to the party’s efforts to recapture political power in the 2028 general elections.
“I remain an ardent and good standing member of the party and will continue to discharge my role as a member to ensure we recapture power in 2028,” he stated.
Abubakar also wished the constituency leadership continued success and indicated that he looked forward to maintaining contact with the party.
The resignation takes effect from August 8, 2026, according to the letter.
