Former Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, says President John Mahama will continue to assess members of his government and reassign them whenever he considers their skills better suited to other portfolios.
Mr Fuseini said ministers and other government appointees were subject to continuous assessment, with their performance and ability to deliver on the government’s agenda influencing decisions on whether they remain in their current positions.
Speaking on the News Digest programme on Saturday, August 8, 2026, Mr Fuseini said, “Every day, every hour, that the ministers and appointees are working in their bureau offices, they are under appraisal. They are under constant watch.”
He said the latest ministerial changes should therefore not be interpreted merely as a reshuffling of positions, but as part of President Mahama’s efforts to deploy his appointees where their skills and experience could contribute more effectively to the work of government.
“At any time that the President thinks that an appointee has fallen short, or an appointee will better serve the purpose of government by moving to another ministry, he will do it,” Mr Fuseini said.
His comments followed the latest ministerial changes announced by President Mahama on Friday, August 7, 2026. The changes include the nomination of former Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Ahmed Ibrahim, who previously headed the Local Government Ministry, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, while Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been nominated as Defence Minister-designate.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was also nominated as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
