Children Believe, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)has presented 167 bags of certified maize, 20 bags of certified rice seeds and 10 bales of fishing nets worth GH₵47,900. 00 to flood victims at Demon in the Saboba District of Northern Region.
Beneficiary communities are; Kpalba and Tanjamile.
Mr. Tutu Kwabena, Programme Officer Child Protection and Sponsorship of Children Believe said they were presenting the certified seeds to them, to plant early, so that they don’t realize what happened last year.
He said certified rice seeds was meant for only rice farmers and the 167 bags of maize seeds for all the victims, while the fishing nets were for the fishermen and warned them to plant with the seeds and not for consumption.
He advised them against farming along river bodies and plant early before the rains set in fully.
He said Children Believe, formerly Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) would leave its operation in the area in June 2021 (this year) and their 13 years operation in the area, focused on education, child sponsorship, Sustainable Livelihood Development, giving women loans and empowering on business activities, Health and Nutrition, Water and Sanitation.
He said during last year’s floods they presented rice, maize, beans and cassava to 269 households of Kpalba and Tanjamile, affected by the flood and also distributed hygiene kits to pupils of Kpalba, E.P Primary and JHS Demon D.A Primary and JHS, Namongbani D.A Primary and JHS, Wanbung EP Primary and JHS, Zakoli R.C Primary and JHS, Ngani D.A Primary and JHS and Tanjamile D.A Primary School all within Yendi Municipal and Saboba District.
He said the schools benefited from shaving sticks, tooth brush, tooth paste and quantity of clipper for cutting finger nails and when the COVID-19 started in Ghana they provided nose masks, Veronica buckets, sanitizers to communities within their operation areas in Yendi, Saboba.
Mr. Tutu said Tanjamile, Wanbung, Namongbani, Zakoli, Ngani and Demon benefited from various support.
Mr. Dakurugu Manyiyiudind on behalf of the beneficiaries of the certified seeds for planting and the fishermen thanked them for the donation and gave the assurance to use them judiciously.
