MTN Ghana Awards Scholarships to 500 Students and Teachers Under Bright Scholarship Scheme

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to education by awarding scholarships to 500 students and teachers under its flagship MTN Bright Scholarship Scheme for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The ceremony, held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, celebrated academic excellence and the transformative power of education.
This year’s beneficiaries include 187 female and 313 male students selected from across the country, representing diverse backgrounds.

The package covers tuition, accommodation, stipends for books, and living expenses.

Launched in 2018, the Bright Scholarship Scheme has so far supported 720 students nationwide, producing outstanding results: 10 valedictorians, 520 First Class graduates, and 94 Second Class Upper graduates.

The program is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most impactful private-sector educational initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, the General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value, Dr. Isaac Mate, described the scheme as “a beacon of hope for students and families across the country.”

He emphasized MTN’s goal of expanding the program to benefit 1,500 students over the next three years, with a renewed focus on STEM, vocational and technical education, and advanced training for teachers.

“This year’s gender balance reflects MTN’s unwavering dedication to inclusivity and equal opportunities. We are particularly proud to see 187 female students among the beneficiaries, many of whom are pursuing careers in STEM,” Dr. Mate said.

The 2025 edition attracted 3,691 applications, out of which 1,200 candidates were shortlisted for interviews before 500 final beneficiaries were selected. Notably, this year’s group includes 33 differently abled students.
Guest of honour, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, praised MTN Ghana for tackling educational inequality.

He commended the scheme’s strong focus on STEM, calling it “a model initiative for private-sector-driven development.”

“This scholarship is not just giving hope—it is correcting systemic imbalances and ensuring that all students, regardless of gender or background, have a fair chance to succeed,” Dr. Amoakohene said.

The event was attended by dignitaries, education stakeholders, and traditional leaders, and featured emotional testimonies from recipients who shared how the support had eased financial burdens and given them a chance to pursue their dreams.

With its inclusive approach and long-term commitment, the MTN Bright Scholarship Scheme continues to stand as a testament to MTN Ghana’s vision of empowering youth, bridging socio-economic gaps, and shaping the future of education in Ghana.
