FIRSTBANK GHANA OPENS NEW BRANCH IN TAMALE

FirstBank Ghana has officially commissioned its newest branch in Tamale, marking a major milestone as the bank extends its services to the Northern Region.

Tamale, one of the fastest-growing cities in West Africa, plays a critical role in Ghana’s national development agenda.
Speaking at the commissioning, Mr. Victor Yaw Asante, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank Ghana, described the launch as more than just the opening of a new branch.

“This commissioning signifies our deeper commitment to Northern Ghana and reaffirms our belief that true national growth must include every region and every community,” he said.
He noted that Tamale is the commercial heartbeat of Northern Ghana, connecting key agricultural and trade corridors.

With formal banking penetration in the region still below 40 percent, Mr. Asante stressed the bank’s mission to tap into the significant potential of the area.
“By establishing a physical and strategic presence here, FirstBank aims to support livelihoods, grow businesses, and power the economic engine of the North. We encourage individuals, groups, and organizations to bank with us, as FirstBank has stood the test of time,” he added.
Performing the official commissioning, Ms. Rosie Ebe-Arthur, Non-Executive Director of FirstBank Ghana, emphasized that the bank’s expansion is a bold and lasting statement of commitment.

“We are here not only to do business but to become a long-term development partner in this community. This presence reflects our strategic intent to extend access to quality financial services to every region and to walk with our customers on their journey of progress,” she said.
She highlighted the critical role banks play in regional growth, stressing that financial institutions not only facilitate transactions but also help shape destinies.

“Tamale holds immense economic potential, yet many remain outside the formal banking space. Our branch here is a direct response to that gap—creating new pathways for inclusion, access, and opportunity for individuals, businesses, and underserved communities.
Agriculture, trade, education, faith institutions, and the informal sector are key drivers of this region, and we are here to serve them with intention and purpose.
This branch is not the end goal; it is a vehicle for lasting transformation,” Ms. Ebe-Arthur added.
FirstBank Group, the parent company of FirstBank Ghana, boasts a heritage of 131 years and operations across sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Asia. Its parent institution, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, is one of Africa’s most enduring financial institutions.
In Ghana, FirstBank operates branches in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and Takoradi, with Tamale now joining its network.
