NE/R: Joy in Nakpanduri following return of ambulance

Residents of Nakpanduri in the North East Region are expressing relief and joy following the return of their community’s ambulance, which had been temporarily stationed in Nalerigu.

The vehicle was redeployed earlier this month to support emergency response efforts after a tragic accident on the Nalerigu-Gbintri road on September 6, 2025, which claimed multiple lives and left several others critically injured.

The redeployment sparked concern and speculation among locals, with some fearing that the ambulance had been permanently reassigned to Nalerigu.

However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 10, the North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, clarified that the move was strictly temporary and motivated solely by the urgency of the situation.

He explained that the East Mamprusi Municipal Assembly’s ambulance was out of service at the time, and the Nakpanduri ambulance was dispatched to fill the gap and assist with the emergency at the Baptist Medical Centre (BMC), the region’s main referral hospital.

“I wish to state categorically that I have not directed the permanent relocation of the Nakpanduri ambulance to Nalerigu,” the Minister said.

“The sole reason for its deployment was to support emergency response efforts during a tragic situation.”

The return has been met with gratitude by residents, who view the vehicle as a vital lifeline for medical emergencies in the community.

Community leaders and residents have also called for better communication and transparency in future decisions involving emergency logistics to avoid unnecessary tension and misinformation.

Meanwhile, the Regional Minister has cautioned against politicizing such emergency interventions, stating that “human life must always come first.” He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring all districts have access to effective emergency health support.
