Mohammed Kudus’ sensational solo goal against Freiburg nominated for Puskas Award

Mohammed Kudus' sensational strike against Freiburg in the Europa League last season has earned him a Puskas award nomination.

The Ghana international weaved his way past a sea of Freiburg players from his own half before slotting home with his weaker foot in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The goal won West Ham United’s goal of the season, and he will now face competition from his peers from other clubs and countries for the top award.

Other African players on the list are Nigeria’s Paul Onauchu, Uganda’s Dennis Omedi, and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia.

Meanwhile, Manchester Unoited’s Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick against Everton has also been nominated for the top award.

Hassan Al Haydos of Qatar, Inter Milan’s Federico DiMarco, Terry Antonis of Australia, Walter Bou of Argentina, Michaell Chirinos of Honduras and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene complete the list.

The winner will be presented with the award at the FIFA Awards to be held in January 2025.
