Blame Otto Addo and his technical team for Black Stars’ ‘HORROR’ performances – George Alhassan

The 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner’s remarks come after Ghana failed to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament after finishing at the bottom of Group F in the recently concluded qualifiers.

The Black Stars failed to record a single win after six games.

Despite the criticisms of the players for the lack of the perceived lack of commitment, Alhassan rather blamed the technical team for the poor performances.

“They (players) are committed…In our case, I don’t think we have a good coach because if you have a good coach, things like this wouldn’t have happened. So in our case, this particular issue, it’s coaching stuff,” he told Citi Sports.

“Me I won’t blame GFA (Ghana Football Association) and other people, it’s the technical team. No player will wear a jersey and (would want to) go and disgrace himself; for me, I believe it’s the coaches,” he added.

For the first time in 20 years, Ghana will not compete at the AFCON tournament which is scheduled to be hosted in Morocco.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo is expected to keep his role as the Black Stars head coach despite the team’s failure to secure qualification.

The senior national team will regroup for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March 2025 with games against Chad and Madagascar.
