Greater Accra extend lead as Ashanti Region revive campaign in 2025 KGL U-17 Colts Championship

Greater Accra extended their unbeaten run with a narrow 1–0 victory over Upper West on the FIFA Pitch. Philip Amponsah’s seventh-minute strike secured all three points, taking the capital side to eight points from three games and putting them firmly on course for the knockout stage.

Defending champions Western Region recorded the day’s most emphatic win, sweeping aside Elite Academy (Bolga) 5–0 to move into second place on seven points, edging Volta Region on goal difference. Western’s attacking depth was on full display, with goals from Emmanuel Arthur, Ramzy Duah, Francis Essiam, Godfred Amos, and Bernard Yankey sealing a comprehensive triumph.

Earlier, Volta Region edged Northern Region 1–0 courtesy of a decisive finish from Danso Kwaku Mensah. Despite the victory, Volta slipped to third, level on points with Western but behind on goal difference.

Greater Accra’s midfield duo Jonathan Mensah Okai and Justice Osei, along with left-back Isaac Dodzi Kwabena, have been standout performers so far, while Upper West captain Shakur Ibrahim, Northern Region striker Salifu Kabiru, and Volta attackers Danso Kwaku Mensah and Agbali John continue to impress.

Group B

On the betPawa Pitch, Ashanti Region roared back into contention with a commanding 3–0 victory over Brong Ahafo. Adjei Duah opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the third minute, Alidu Issah doubled the lead just after the restart, and a 64th-minute strike sealed a crucial three points.

Central Region climbed the standings with a 2–1 win over Upper East in a lively contest. Sumaila Bukari gave Upper East an early lead in the eighth minute before Didard Fosu equalised in the 14th. Adoku Awuni Dennis struck the winner just five minutes later.

In the group’s final fixture, Eastern Region edged Elite Academy (Accra) 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw, further tightening the race in this fiercely competitive group.

Now in its fifth year, the KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship continues to shine as Ghana’s premier platform for emerging football talent, with its expanded 12-team lineup showcasing the next generation of stars destined for the nation’s junior national teams and domestic leagues.
