GHC1m club support could transform Ghana Premier League – Aduana CEO Atta Poku
The Chief Executive Officer of Aduana FC, Collins Atta Poku, has described the Ghana Football Association’s proposed GH¢1 million financial support for each Ghana Premier League club as one of the most significant initiatives of Kurt Okraku’s tenure.

The GFA announced the financial and incentive package at its 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday.
Under the proposal, each of the 18 Premier League clubs will receive a base payment of GH¢1 million to support team operations and ease financial pressures ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Poku welcomed the announcement, saying the funding could provide much-needed relief to clubs facing rising operational costs.
“I would say this is the single most significant and transformative declaration by the FA president in his entire tenure. Now, there has to be consistency,” he said.
The Aduana CEO noted that clubs received a similar GH¢1 million payment during the previous season, but uncertainty over continued support had made it difficult for teams to plan their finances.
“Clubs took their money last season; we took 1 million Ghana cedis, and coming here today, we are not even certain that we are going to receive another support or cushion for the upcoming season,” he said.
Poku said the direct financial injection would help clubs reduce some of the burden associated with running competitive teams.
“Putting money directly into the pocket of Aduana Football Club and 17 other Premier League clubs, 1 million Ghana cedis, is very, very significant and transformative. You take away some of the burden that we face,” he added.
For Aduana FC, Poku said the proposed payment could cover about a third of the club’s annual operating budget.
“For Aduana, like this, we could say that about a third of our budget would be taken care of if we get 1 million Ghana cedis. It’s significant,” he said.
The GH¢1 million payment forms part of a broader GH¢9.5 million financial and incentive package for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The package includes GH¢3 million for the league champions, GH¢1 million for the runners-up, as well as additional financial rewards for clubs finishing third and fourth.
The new Premier League season is scheduled to begin on September 5.
