GFA to commit US$200,000 to welfare of former national team players

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will commit US$200,000 over the next four years to support the healthcare needs of former national team players.

The initiative, announced by GFA President Kurt Okraku during the Association’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, will see US$50,000 allocated annually through the GFA Foundation.

Okraku said the initiative is aimed at supporting former national team players who are dealing with various medical conditions.

“A new GFA Foundation Player Welfare Initiative, under which the FA will commit US$50,000 annually over the next four years to support the healthcare needs of our former national team players who are battling various medical conditions,” Okraku said.

“This represents a total investment of US$200,000 over the four-year period,” he added.

The Player Welfare Initiative forms part of the GFA Foundation’s efforts to provide support for former players who represented Ghana at the international level.

The programme will run for four years, with the annual allocation directed towards the healthcare needs of former national team players facing medical challenges.

The announcement was made as football stakeholders gathered for the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress to review the past season and deliberate on the development and administration of Ghana football ahead of the new season.
