Ghana FA releases 2025/26 Premier League Fixtures: Title Defence, derby dates and Regional clashes headline new season

The Ghana Football Association has officially unveiled the full fixture list for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, providing fans and clubs with an exciting first look at the matchups that will shape the upcoming campaign.

Champions begin at home

Defending champions Gold Stars FC will begin their title defence at home, hosting Bechem United at the Duns Park in Bibiani. The season opener sets the stage for what is expected to be another thrilling chapter in Ghana’s top-flight football, as Gold Stars look to assert their dominance early on.

Hearts and Kotoko chart different openings

Accra Hearts of Oak, looking to rebound from a mixed 2024/25 campaign, will welcome newly promoted Hohoe United to the Accra Sports Stadium on Match Day 1. Meanwhile, arch-rivals and record winners, Asante Kotoko SC face a challenging opener on the road against Berekum Chelsea, as they aim to kick-start a strong title push.

Match Day 1 highlights

The opening weekend is packed with drama, featuring tough away fixtures for former champions: Medeama SC travel to face Young Apostles, while FC Samartex are away to Vision FC. Premier League returnees Swedru All Blacks FC and Eleven Wonders FC will also start on the road, facing Nations FC and Basake Holy Stars, respectively.

2024/25 runners-up Heart of Lions open their campaign at home against Dreams FC, and Karela United will host Aduana FC in another closely matched fixture.

Derbies and rivalries take center stage

The first leg of Ghana’s biggest rivalry, Hearts of Oak vs. Asante Kotoko is set for Match Day 5 at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the reverse fixture to be played on Match Day 22 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The Ashanti Derby between Nations FC and Asante Kotoko will unfold on Match Day 9 in Abrankese with the return leg scheduled for Match Day 26 in Kumasi.

In the Volta Region, the long-awaited Volta Derby makes its return after several years. Hohoe United will host Kpando Heart of Lions on Match Day 17, with the reverse fixture scheduled for Match Day 34, the final weekend of the season, in Kpando.

Regional battles to watch: Brong Ahafo edition

The Brong Ahafo region will host a string of fiery regional battles. Young Apostles will lock horns with Bechem United (Match Day 5), Berekum Chelsea (Match Day 7) and Aduana FC (Match Day 16), with return legs on Match Days 22, 24, and 33 respectively.

Aduana FC face Bechem United on Match Day 9 and Berekum Chelsea on Match Day 11. Elsewhere, Bechem United meet Eleven Wonders on Match Day 14 and renew hostilities with Berekum Chelsea on Match Day 17. Berekum Chelsea will also host Eleven Wonders at Golden City Park on Match Day 16.

Western Rivalries: Medeama, Samartex, Basake Holy Stars

In the west, regional matchups will provide added spice. Medeama SC host FC Samartex on Match Day 6, with the reverse fixture on Match Day 23. On Match Day 15, Medeama will welcome Basake Holy Stars before traveling for the return leg on Match Day 32.

FC Samartex face Basake Holy Stars away on Match Day 14, with the return leg of the Western Derby scheduled for Match Day 31.

Season timeline and structure

The 2025/26 Premier League campaign kicks off on the weekend of September 12, 2025, and concludes on the weekend of May 23–24, 2026. The calendar has been aligned to ensure all domestic competitions wrap up before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

With Congress scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the Football Association is on track to start the season promptly in line with the approved FIFA calendar for all member associations.

As with previous seasons, league matches will primarily be played on weekends, with midweek dates reserved for outstanding or rescheduled fixtures, maintaining consistency with the structure of the 2024/25 season.
