Germany legend Gerald Asamoah flies 40 surgeons to Ghana for annual free heart surgeries
Former Germany international, Gerald Asamoah, has flown 40 top surgeons to Ghana for his annual free heart surgeries for children with hole-in-heart conditions.
The activity championed by the Gerald Asamoah Foundation is held every year as part of the ex-footballer’s initiative of giving back to the country he was born.
The doctors will spent a few days in Ghana to perform the procedure on the selected children before returning to Germany.
The team of surgeons arrived at the Kotoko International Airport, expressing their excitement about the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of Ghanaian children.
Asamoah, who is also of Ghanaian descent, chose to represent the German national team during his football career and played for renowned clubs such as Schalke and FC St. Pauli.
Now, he is leveraging his influence and resources to make a positive impact on the healthcare landscape in Ghana, demonstrating a commitment to philanthropy and community welfare.
In 2016, Asamoah accepted the FIFA Fair Play award on behalf of all football organisations supporting refugees during the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala 2015 at the Kongresshaus in Zurich.
His career spent most of his time in Germany playing for Hanover, Greuther Furth and Schalke O4.
