Asante Kotoko sign Moroccan goalkeeper Abdelwadie Mourad

Mourad joins a group that already includes Aziz Dari, returning goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad and youth team graduate Clever Obeng.

The Moroccan began his professional career with top-flight side Chabab Mohammedia, progressing through the club’s youth ranks before being promoted to the senior team. He made 14 appearances for the first team before moving to Albanian side Basania FC, where he spent half a season.

Mourad becomes the first Moroccan player to represent Asante Kotoko and arrives with an ambition to establish himself at one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.

The goalkeeper told Kotoko’s media that the club’s reputation across Africa played a major role in his decision.

“Who doesn’t know Asante Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana? They have a lot of trophies, and I want to be part of this club, giving my best to let the team trust me,” Mourad said.

“I wish to be the best goalkeeper in this club. This club is ambitious to do more, so that’s why I chose this club.”

Kotoko Director of Football Stanley Menzo said Mourad’s attitude and desire to win trophies convinced the club to bring him in.

“He speaks so positively about our club and it is a testament to the strong culture and unity we have,” Menzo said.

“We are happy and we believe together with Dan, Aziz and Obeng, we have very strong options.”
