Aduana CEO Atta Poku hailsimproved financial support for Women’s Premier League

Speaking on the recent developments surrounding the women’s top flight, Poku commended the involvement of Universal Energy Bank and Access Bank, noting that the league’s financial framework has improved significantly.

“For the Women’s Premier League, we want to thank Universal Energy Bank. Yes, Access Bank is there, but you can clearly see that the terms and conditions have improved,” he said.

According to the Aduana FC boss, the improved financial package presents an opportunity to make the competition more attractive and encourage clubs to invest more in their teams.

He believes the introduction of stronger financial incentives will motivate clubs to challenge more aggressively for honours while contributing to the overall growth of women’s football in the country.

“Now we have money for the prize money, and we pray that the level of competitiveness will also meet the standards that we have been working on,” Poku added.

The football administrator further stressed that prize money can play a key role in driving ambition among clubs, revealing his excitement about the rewards available to the eventual champions.

“I’m happy that if we win the league – and we are planning to win – if it happens, we get three million dollars. That is also significant,” he said.

Poku also addressed concerns over outstanding prize money owed to clubs from the previous season, expressing confidence that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will honour its commitments.

He pointed to recent financial support received by clubs as evidence that the association is making progress in fulfilling its obligations.

“And then in the brochure, the president says it is outstanding and yet to be paid, the prize money for last season,” he noted.

While admitting that he had previously doubted whether the payments would be made, Poku said recent developments had strengthened his trust in the process.

“In the past, I’ve had doubts about whether it will be paid. But when you give me one million for last season, and you tell me I’ll give you your outstanding prize money, I know it will be paid,” he stated.

The enhanced sponsorship package and improved prize-money structure are expected to provide a major boost for clubs competing in the Women’s Premier League as stakeholders continue efforts to strengthen the women’s game in Ghana.
