2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Picking a point against Ghana is a huge boost for our qualification chances – Sudan assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu

Sudanese national team assistant coach Ignatius Fosu-Osei believes that securing a point against Ghana is a significant boost for their chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His comments came after the Falcons held the Black Stars to a 0-0 draw in their Matchday 3 AFCON qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Despite Ghana’s dominance and pressure throughout the game, Sudan’s defense held strong to earn a valuable point.

Speaking after the match, Osei-Fosu, a former Medeama SC coach, expressed confidence in his team’s chances of qualification, emphasizing that the result strengthens their position.

“We have always been confident from the star of the competition because we take solace in the fact that in the (2026) World Cup qualifiers, we are two points clear ahead of Senegal,” he said.

“So for us, we have always been confident that we are going to qualify.”

He further highlighted the importance of the draw in Accra: “After Ghana lost at home (to Angola) and drew away (to Niger) we knew that if we won all our home games, we will qualify so this (getting a draw in Accra) is a huge boost for Team Sudan because now it becomes easier,” he added.

Sudan now sits in second place in Group F with four points, while Ghana trails with just two points from three games.

The two teams will face off again on Tuesday, October 15, at the Martyrs of February Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 GMT.
