2024/25 Ghana Premier League: Week 9 Match Preview – Medeama vs Hearts of Oak

Medeama SC will welcome Hearts of Oak to the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa for a highly anticipated Ghana Premier League clash on Friday night.

Both teams enter the match with contrasting forms, but as the record shows, meetings between these sides always carry an extra intensity.

Currently sitting third in the league table, Medeama have been in solid form with four wins, three draws, and a single defeat from their eight games.

They’ve shown resilience, particularly at home, maintaining four consecutive clean sheets. Medeama’s recent outing saw them hold off Aduana FC to a 2-2 draw – a match that extended into Monday morning due to heavy rain.

In that match, Medeama took a commanding 2-0 lead before conceding twice, underscoring the team’s defensive strength yet hinting at a need for extra focus in the final minutes.

Coach Nebojsa Kapor has expressed his eagerness for the clash, saying, “I’m always very happy when we play a match like this. It doesn’t matter where they stand on the table; it’s always an excellent match. We always prepare as if they are the best because they always have good players.”

The Serb remains focused solely on his team’s performance, sidestepping Hearts’ internal issues and underlining the importance of preparing “as if they are the best.”

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak have had a challenging start to their campaign, currently ranked 12th with nine points from two wins, three draws, and three defeats.

The Accra-based club comes into this fixture on the back of a 0-1 home loss to Bibiani Gold Stars, which has only added to the pressure mounting on the team.

Despite recent struggles, Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara remains optimistic, claiming a “process” that he believes will eventually deliver results.

“Every match, we expect to win three points,” he said. “We ask our supporters to continue to support us because this is a process.”

Historically, these teams have been neck-and-neck in recent meetings, each winning three of their last six encounters since January 2022.

The last face-off came in April, with Medeama coming out on top with a decisive 2-0 victory. Medeama have scored nine goals across these six matchups, compared to Hearts’ six, indicating their slight edge in firepower.

Medeama enter the match with a more favourable form, having won two, drawn three, and lost just once in their last six matches.

Hearts, on the other hand, have struggled for consistency, winning two, losing one, and drawing three of their last six.

The visiting team will look to reverse their fortunes and climb the standings, but they face a formidable opponent in a Medeama side hungry to close the gap on league leaders.

With both teams looking to make a statement, fans can expect an intense, closely contested game in Tarkwa.
