Manasseh Azure, Abdul Hayi Moomen, and Maukeni Ribeiro Train Young Writers at Creative Writing Clinics

Renowned investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, in collaboration with celebrated broadcaster Abdul Hayi Moomen and accomplished writer and communications executive Maukeni Ribeiro, has organized a one-day creative writing clinic aimed at nurturing young and aspiring writers.

Dubbed the Creative Writing Clinics, the initiative began in Accra and was extended to the Northern sector over the weekend. Fully sponsored by Star Oil and MTN Ghana, the clinic provided free participation, writing materials, and meals to all attendees.

Speaking to journalists, Manasseh Azure Awuni explained the inspiration behind the initiative. He noted that he frequently receives mentorship requests from individuals seeking guidance in writing.

“I write a lot—across mainstream media, social media, and in books. People often ask me for mentorship, but I can’t reach everyone individually.

So, I came up with this idea to bring together as many aspiring writers as possible. Along with my friends, we could share tips, experiences, and motivation. It doesn’t take one day to become a great writer, but initiatives like this provide the right direction,” Manasseh said.

He expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana and Star Oil for making the program accessible to all by covering all expenses.

Commenting on the state of investigative journalism in Ghana, Manasseh expressed concern, stating that it is not where it should be.

“We have many media houses, but very few are committed to investigative journalism. The risks and challenges are enormous, and not many journalists are willing—or able—to take them on. The lack of institutional support also makes it hard to grow this critical area of journalism,” he added.

Participants who spoke to Fiila News expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn directly from such experienced professionals. However, they appealed for the duration of the clinic to be extended and for similar sessions to be held in other regions.

During the sessions, Abdul Hayi Moomen, known for his excellence in journalism, and Maukeni Ribeiro, a seasoned communications strategist, led various breakout sessions. They shared practical writing techniques and personal insights from their respective careers, leaving participants inspired and empowered.
