2 Immigration Officers involved in a fatal accident, one dies on the spot

Two officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) who were scheduled for a night patrol at Kuyuli in the Tatale District of the Northern Region have been involved in a fatal accident in the course of duty.

One of the two is said to have lost his life at the scene and pronounced dead upon arrival at the Tatale District Hospital and the other is in a critical condition after sustaining serious injuries.

The unfortunate incident is said to have happened when the officers were chasing smugglers through some unapproved routes in the district when they crashed into a spoiled truck parked on the road with no sign to show.

A statement signed by the Northern Regional Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Inspector, Christian Kobla Kekeli Zilevu and copied to FiilaNews indicates that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and the other officer is also currently receiving care at the said Teaching hospital.

The statement further said the people of Kuyuli in the Tatale district are noted for their notoriety in smuggling activities adding that officers are constantly deployed on patrol duties in that area to prevent such activities.

Meanwhile the Command of the Ghana Immigration Service is sending serious warning to those who are involved in smuggling activities in the country to advise themselves and desist from such acts or be dealt with rigorously when they are caught.
