Zoo to be established in Tamale

The northern regional director of the Ghana tourism Authority Alhaji Hakeem Ismael has revealed  that, the Ghana tourism Authority is liaising with the forestry commission to establish a zoo in the Tamale metropolis.

This according to him will form part  of the region’s drive towards tourism attraction to help woo foreign investers into the northern region.

He made this statement during a press conference at the regional coordinating council Friday, September 24, 2021 to mark the celebration of the United Nation’s world tourism day.

According to the Director, the establishment of the zoo will not only invite foreign investers but also serve as a source of employment and revenue generation for the country.

Alhaji Hakeem noted that, currently the northern region’s strength as far as tourism is concerned is on festivals and culture therefore there is the need to rebrand the region to a tourism hub.

The outbreak of the covid 19 pandemic according to him, has affected tourism globally by reducing employment numbers, domestic and foreign tourism hence causing revenue generation to minimize.

Following the devastating impact of the pandemic on the tourism industry, the ministry of tourism, Art and culture through the Ghana tourism Authority launched a domestic tourism drive to  help wave in more tourists into the country.

This was accompanied with the development of a national app to sharpen the promotional and marketing drives in the country, to Ghana’s clientele.

The Regional Director of Tourism meanwhile pleaded on the media to assist the northern regional tourism Authority to unearthed some of the tourism sites in the region, that can be considered as stakeholders.

The day was marked under the theme: Tourism for Inclusive Growth.
