A 45-year-old physically challenged barber who defiled a 14-year girl in Yendi has pleaded guilty to the offence.
The suspect Abdul Razak, on the 7th of August 2023, allegedly defiled the girl at Nayilifond in Yendi.
He was remanded into police custody to reappear on the 15th of August for his plea to be taken.
The suspect has been convicted, but the judge ordered that the girl be medically examined to see if she contracted any disease before sentencing
This incident is contrary to section 101 (2) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29), a serious offence that carries significant legal consequences.
Razak is described as a physically challenged individual and a respected Muasin (someone who calls for prayers).
Meanwhile, the alleged incident has sent shockwaves through the community and left residents in disbelief.
