World Cup 2026: We don’t fear anyone – Jonathan Mensah confident ahead of Colombia showdown

Former Ghana international Jonathan Mensah has expressed confidence in the Black Stars ahead of their crucial Round of 32 clash against Colombia at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ghana booked their place in the knockout stage after finishing third in Group L, setting up a high-stakes encounter with the South American side scheduled for Saturday, July 4.

The Black Stars opened their campaign with a narrow win over Panama, shared the spoils with England, and later suffered a defeat against Croatia in their final group match.

Reflecting on Ghana’s performance at the tournament, the former Columbus Crew defender praised the team’s early momentum and resilience.

“I was glad for the boys getting three points in the first game; very important, and that obviously helped us to qualify. I’m glad we did that. Now we recover, prepare and go again,” he said.

Mensah also described the Croatia game as unusual from a psychological point of view, noting that Ghana’s early qualification influenced the team’s intensity.

“It was a bizarre game against Croatia from my perspective. When you know you are already through to the knockout stage, the sense of urgency wasn’t there, a couple of changes were made, but I’m glad the team came out of the game healthy,” he added.

Looking ahead to the Colombia clash, Mensah struck an optimistic tone, insisting Ghana have no fear of any opponent.

“We don’t fear anyone; we just need to prepare according to our strengths and do proper scouting of opponents,” he told TV3 in an interview.

Ghana will now turn their attention to the knockout stage as they aim to continue their strong World Cup run against Colombia.
