World Cup 2026: We are not going to be ahead of ourselves – Antoine Semenyo ahead of England clash
Black Stars winger Antoine Semenyo has called for calm and focus despite Ghana’s dramatic late victory over Panama in their opening Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win at BMO Field in Toronto, where Caleb Yirenkyi struck in stoppage time to secure all three points after a tightly contested encounter that appeared destined for a goalless draw.
The result gave Carlos Queiroz’s side a winning start, but Semenyo insisted the team must quickly shift attention to the challenges ahead rather than get carried away by the breakthrough.
Speaking after the match, where he was named Man of the Match, the Bournemouth attacker stressed Ghana’s respect for their upcoming opponents, particularly England.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” Semenyo stated when questioned about the Three Lions.
“We are not going to be ahead of ourselves. We want to win that game, but we know it’s not going to be easy,” the Manchester City forward added.
Ghana’s victory places them in a strong position in Group L, with crucial fixtures against England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 and Croatia on June 27 still to come.
The four-time African champions will be hoping to build on their winning start as they target a return to the knockout stages for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
