World Cup 2026: England manager Thomas Tuchel shares ‘worrying’ concern over Saka’s fitness ahead of tournament

England manager Thomas Tuchel says they are being careful with the management of forward Bukayo Saka ahead of the World Cup.

The Arsenal talisman missed part of the just-ended campaign due to an Achilles injury, but returned in time for the run-in as the Gunners were crowned champions.

Despite being declared fit, Tuchel insists the player is continuously under careful scrutiny over his fitness.

“We still have to take a little bit of care for Bukayo [Saka] who had an injury in March and carried it through the club campaign,” Tuchel told a news conference ahead of their final warm up game against Costa Rica.

“He made himself available at the end of the season and did so brilliantly, but he was managed in between matches. That continues a bit at the moment – we are building him up.

“We just came from training and everyone was involved including Bukayo.”

England will face Ghana in their second Group L game in Boston after their opener against 2018 runners-up Croatia.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will face Panama in Toronto on June 17 before ending their group games with a match against Croatia in Philadelphia.
