TP Mazembe arrive in Tarkwa ahead of Medeama CAF Champions League showdown
Congolese giants TP Mazembe have arrived in Tarkwa ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg clash against Medeama SC on Sunday.
The five-time African champions made the long journey from Lubumbashi to Ghana, with their trip punctuated by stopovers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Accra before completing the final leg to Tarkwa.
A 35-member delegation has travelled to Ghana, including 22 players, as the Lubumbashi-based side intensifies preparations for what promises to be one of the biggest matches on the Ghanaian football calendar this weekend.
The TP Mazembe contingent is lodged at the Longji International Hotel in Tarkwa, where the players held a light muscle-awakening session in the hotel garden shortly after their arrival to recover from the lengthy journey.
The club, under the leadership of chairman Moise Katumbi, is expected to continue its preparations on Friday with a training session at Akoon Park.
The Ravens will then have their mandatory official training session at the TNA Stadium on Saturday, giving head coach Slimane Raho and his technical team an opportunity to make final preparations for Sunday’s encounter.
TP Mazembe will face Medeama on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 15:00 GMT, with the Ghanaian champions expected to rely heavily on home advantage in the first leg.
Medeama will be eager to secure a positive result in Tarkwa before travelling to Lubumbashi for the return fixture, while TP Mazembe will be determined to begin their continental campaign on a strong footing.
With two of Africa’s ambitious clubs meeting at the opening stage of the competition, the encounter is shaping up as a major attraction for Ghanaian football fans.
