Tamale should be locked down too – Mayor of Tamale

The mayor of Tamale Iddrisu Musah Superior is of the greatest conviction that the Northern region should also be locked down to prevent the further spread of the deadly Covid-19 disease.

With reference on the Guinean patient who is currently at large, the mayor indicated that it makes the situation of Tamale more dangerous than any other region, hence a lockdown would’ve been more appropriate at this time.

Though government has banned all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church activities and other related events as part of measures to stop the spread of coronavirus in the country, indigenes are still congregating for some of these events in the Northern Regional capital Tamale, this the mayor believes is enough reason for a lockdown of Tamale in this trying times.

In an interview on Fiila FM’s Morning show “Daybreak Tamale”, on the state of Northern region on covid 19, the Mayor eulogized church leaders and some Islamic clerics who have since adhered to the directive of the president on social gathering by suspending services.

Meanwhile he described as unacceptable and a form of denigration, people who call our brothers and sisters who moved to the south for greener pastures as “Kayaye”.

According to Musah Superior ‘Kayaye” are just economic migrants who traveled to other parts of the country to work and fend for themselves, hence must be treated with respect.

He noted further that Every MMDA was instructed by the ministry of local government to quarantine those returnee migrants and examine them before releasing them to their various families.

He therefore made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to obey and comply with the directive and stay safe, for Ghana is not in normal times.
