Sosu: Legal education reforms will make law practice competitive

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, has dismissed concerns that ongoing legal education reforms could prioritise quantity over quality.
He argued that the changes will improve access and enhance standards within the legal profession.
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Sosu said increasing the number of trained lawyers would improve access to legal services and reduce the concentration of legal expertise among a few practitioners.
“We have a little over 12,000 lawyers as against a population of about 34 million people. Look at how many assemblies we have in Ghana. How many of them have lawyers? Look at our Legal Aid scheme. How many lawyers do we have there?
“Go across the country and go region by region and see the regional representation of lawyers. I believe that where there is competition, there is quality. What we have now is a few lawyers holding people hostage.
“If we have many more lawyers in the system, I believe that it is going to liberalise the system. It is going to give many more people access to legal services. And for me, that is what we should be looking up to
