SONG-BA EMPOWERMENT CENTRE TRAINS JOURNALISTS ON RESPONSIBLE MIGRATION REPORTING

The Song-ba Empowerment Centre has organized a sensitization workshop for journalists under the Media Migration Act Project to strengthen responsible and informed reporting on migration issues.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Country Commissioner for the project and Executive Director of the Song-ba Empowerment Centre, Madam Rhoda Wedam, said the training was designed for a carefully selected group of media practitioners to enhance their knowledge, practical skills, and technological capacity in migration reporting.

She noted that the training is being offered free of charge, despite similar programmes often attracting substantial fees. She therefore encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity by actively engaging in all the sessions.

Madam Wedam explained that the project also seeks to build a pool of local resource persons who can serve as facilitators after the project ends. According to her, significant resources have been invested to engage experienced trainers, particularly experts in migration, to ensure participants receive quality instruction.

The workshop covered a wide range of topics, including news verification, digital technologies, migration governance, migration discourse analysis, innovative reporting approaches and tools, and the use of existing migration reports.

She concluded by urging participants to approach the training with commitment and dedication, expressing confidence that the knowledge acquired would contribute to more accurate, ethical, and balanced migration reporting in Ghana.
