Randy Abbey opens up on Kwesi Appiah’s dual role as coach and GFA Exco member ahead of Sudan showdown
Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association Randy Abbey has raised concerns about Kwesi Appiah’s dual role ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification doubleheader against Sudan.
The former Ghana international secured a seat on the Executive Council last October after already being appointed coach for Sudan.
Appiah was managing both roles, until the Black Stars were paired in same group against Sudan in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
And Randy Abbey speaking on Metro TV, described Kwesi Appiah’s dual role as untidy, revealing the latter has not been attending Exco meeting.
“My friend Kwesi Appiah hasn’t attended any ExCo merging since the draw. I’m sure he’s excusing himself because he knows issues of the game will be discussed. Well, his situation is an untidy one,” said Randy Abbey.
The Black Stars will play host to Sudan on October 11, 2024 in Ghana after CAF approved the Accra Sports Stadium. The team will to Libya to face Sudan in the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, October 14.
Meanwhile, Ghana coach Otto Addo is yet to release his squad for the much-anticipated clash next week. The Black Stars will be hoping to revive their AFCON 2025 qualification chnaces when they face Sudan after a sloppy start to the qualifiers last month.
With one defeat and a draw, the West African powerhouse find themselves outside the top two teams in Group F and will be looking to make amends in the upcoming games against Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan.
Otto Addo’s side aim to secure one of the top two spots in Group F to qualify for the AFCON tournament, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026 in Morocco.
