Parliamentary Select Committee on Education strengthens oversight and legislative work in Ghana’s education sector

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has opened a three-day capacity-building programme designed to strengthen members’ oversight and legislative work in Ghana’s education sector.

Chaired by Peter Nortsu-Kotoe Kwasi, the Committee began the sessions on its constitutional and statutory mandate, the legal and regulatory framework governing education, proposed amendments, and ethical leadership in Parliamentary governance.

Members also participated in practical discussions on Parliamentary procedures, disclosure and recusal requirements, and broader reforms needed to improve education delivery across the country.

A key focus of the training is strengthening accountability in the sector, including the need for public agencies to respond to invitations and appear before the Committee when required.

The Ranking Member of the Committee and former Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, shared insights from his experience in office and outlined practical ways the Committee can support improved education outcomes.

The programme commenced on August 3 and is expected to end on August 5, 2026.
